The dental handpiece is a simple yet outstanding device. Air blows through the tubes and hoses inside it to activate the high-speed spinning mechanism. Furthermore, water also flows through it to cool down the heat emitted by the burs.
However, this is only possible due to the dental handpiece coupler.
The dental handpiece coupler is a tiny element located at the bottom of the handpiece. It possesses a mechanism and holes that allow the correct passage of water and air through the handpiece.
There are different types of couplers depending on the handpiece's model. Furthermore, some of them even have an exhaust mechanism.
Ireo karazana tanana tanana nify couplers are standardized by the International Standardization Organization (ISO) and divided into 3 categories.
● ISO-A (Borden)
It can possess 2 or 3 holes for water and air. Doesn't have an exhaust hole. The Borden coupler is mainly used in Latin America and Europe.
● ISO-B (Midwest)
This type comes in a wide range of models. It can include 2, 4, or 5 holes. Nonetheless, the 5 holes model is the most common one.
It consists of 2 holes for coolant water and air, a slightly bigger hole for an illumination mechanism or fiber optic system, a medium size hole for drive air, and a large hole for the exhaust system.
● ISO-C (New Style)
This is a 6-pin coupler.
